DEDC discusses growing digital economy

State Administration Council Member Deputy Prime Minister Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo, in his capacity as Patron of the Digital Economy Development Committee (DEDC), addressed the fourth coordination meeting of the committee yesterday in Nay Pyi Taw.

In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister said the Digital Economy makes up at least 15 per cent of the global GDP, and it will see an increase to over 25 per cent by 2030, according to the World Economic Forum. The rapid progress that can be achieved through digital means is an undeniable key factor that enables development in developing countries.

The national level Myanmar Digital Economy Development Committee(DEDC) was formed, and the committee released “Myanmar Digital Economy Roadmap 2030” on 24 December 2024. The roadmap includes one strategic vision, one strategic mission, six goals, nine priority sectors, nine strategic pillars, 22 strategic goals, and 77 action plans.

He continued that among these 77 action plans, the relevant working committees should work as per the short-term, mid-term term and long-term plans, and all the DEDC members should cooperate in different sectors for the country and create a digital economy.

Union Minister for Commerce U Tun Ohn, who is also the DEDC chairman, then discussed the need to carry out all the procedures mentioned in “Myanmar Digital Economy Roadmap 2030”, which was approved as a living document, within the fixed period by the working committees, and other ongoing and future work plans.

The patron of the committee provides proper instructions and concludes the meeting.
