Kangyidaunt introduces measures for rural economic advancement

Senior General Min Aung Hlaing urged residents of Kangyidaunt Township to make utmost efforts to further improve the cultivation and production of Pawsan Hmwe rice for export purposes.


Acting President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and State Security and Peace Commission Chairman Senior General Min Aung Hlaing gave guidance on the development of the township with economic growth at the meeting with departmental officials and town elders at Ayeya Thiri Thukha Hall in Kangyidaunt Township of Ayeyawady Region yesterday morning.

 

Speaking on the occasion, the Senior General underlined that it is important for everyone to know and comply with the law with legal knowledge in the democratic practices. If all citizens also understood economic principles, it would further contribute to national economic development beginning at the individual level. Therefore, in order to provide knowledge related to law and economics, universities are offering lectures for BA (Law) and BA (Economics) degree programmes.


He stressed that the Kangyidaunt area has an economy based on agriculture and livestock, and therefore, greater emphasis must be placed on promoting rural economic development. He urged continued efforts to further improve the cultivation and production of Pawsan Hmwe rice for export purposes.


The Senior General urged that educational attainment in Kangyidaunt Township be further improved, noting that only with school education can vocational skills be developed. He said that advanced education in relevant disciplines should also be pursued, and therefore called for emphasis to be placed on improving students’ grade progression rates.


He said that, in order to support the enhancement of national education and enable teachers to pursue master’s degrees and higher-level studies, some education degree colleges would be upgraded to education universities.


He noted that nationwide agricultural activities are failing to meet target production, resulting in losses of approximately US$8 billion each year. Therefore, he emphasized the need to further develop production-based industries founded on agriculture and livestock breeding.


The Senior General underscored that Phase II of the elections would be held in the coming days, and urged voters to cast their ballots for candidates who can genuinely work for the interests of their regions and the nation, and who are committed to improving and advancing local education and healthcare.


At the meeting, the Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister reported on preparations to hold the phase II of the election successfully, operation of agriculture and livestock activities, efforts to boost cultivation and production of oil crops, Pawsan rice and Robusta coffee strains as well as kenaf, plans to ensure food security of the region, disbursement of loans to agriculture, livestock and production businesses from from the State economic development fund, yearwise implementation of rural electrification projects, encouragement to development of MSME businesses, and improvement of eduction, health and sports sectors.


Town elders expressed their wishes to upgrade the people’s hospital in Kangyidaunt, construct a city hall and hostels for teachers from industrial, agriculture and livestock BEHS in the town, upgrade the science lab, build the retaining walls along the Kanthaya strand road where the public recreation centre is located and traditional festivals held as part of easing the erosion, improve the downtown-Padaung-Padaukpin road section in the west of the town, and continue dredging the 4.5 miles long canal benefiting some 700 acres of summer paddy plantations in six village-tracts in the township.


The Senior General unveiled his plans to fulfil the needs for beautifying the town, improving transport facilities and beneficial measures for the people.


At the ceremony, Union Ministers U Min Naung and Dr Charlie Than discussed the implementation of the Thayetchaung-Lahakalu canal dredging project phase I and a plan underway to prioritize the implementation of the phase II, suggestions to increase cultivation of marketable Pawsanhmwe rice in Kangyidaunt Township, efforts to meet the target cultivation for crops in the region, arrangements of the State to provide necessary inputs, cultivation of Robusta coffee strains in horticultural farms with necessary assistance of the government, use of farmlands under the prescribed laws and rules, efficient use of farmlands under the procedures as Kangyidaunt Township is located on a focal point of transport with proper management, provisions of capitals, technologies and inputs to develop MSME businesses, conducting the courses on agriculture, livestock and industrial techniques, chances for individuals from Kangyidaunt Township to seek necessary aids under the procedures in order to produce quality agricultural and livestock products, and needs to systematically operate industries without harming the natural environment.


Also, present at the meeting were Secretary of the Commission General Ye Win Oo, Union ministers, senior Tatmadaw officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief, the commander of South-West Command and deputy ministers.


On his further trip to the Education Degree College in Pathein, the Senior General heard reports on facts about the degree college by officials and gave necessary guidance.


The Senior General visited the degree college and gave guidance to upgrade the hall and create a healthy environment with proper beautification and ventilation. He added that the buildings of the degree college must be renovated to be used efficiently.


At the library, the Senior General stressed the need to fulfil the different genres of books at the library, including pedagogical books for trainees. Systematic management must be arranged for the library facilities. He then donated cash to the fund to create a systematic library for the librarian.
